How to Lower High Water Bills
There are several things that can contribute to a high-water bill in your plumbing system. The most common plumbing leak in the water system is related to poor seals in toilets. Leaking toilets can use up to 200 gallons a day on average, meaning that you could be losing about 6,000 gallons of water a month due to something as simple as a faulty flapper. By dropping a few drops of food coloring and allowing the toilet to sit for a few minutes without flushing will tell you whether your toilet bowl seals are bad and need to be replaced. Sometimes a flapper is a fast, simple fix to the problem. Along with replacing the flapper, you can do another food color test to confirm a good fix. If it turns out it is not your flapper, then more extensive repairs are needed and may require our assistance. Call Acute Plumbing Care for needed repairs.
Irrigation systems with faulty heads can contribute to high water bills by allowing more water to pass through than designed. Our master plumber recommends manually checking the irrigations system by switching it from each station/zone, and visually making sure the heads are all working as designed. Call your irrigation company for any assistance in repairs.
