Leaking Water Heater

A leaking gas water heater or electric water heater can cause extensive damage to your home if it's not properly installed. Even if your water heater is located in the home with no access to an exterior wall you should still get piece of mind that if it were to leak your home is protected.

A leaking gas water heater or electric water heater should be inspected to see if it can be repaired before jumping into replacing it.

Tips:

• Inspect all visible connecting parts. These are generally repairable or replaceable.
• If water is seeping from within the tank, this usually requires replacement.
  • sometimes leaking from the tank will present itself as a hissing noise

Gas water heaters and electric water heaters can be equipped with products such as a waggs valve and flood stop that can shut off water supply to the water heater at the first detection of water.

If you are within the city limits, some cities require water heaters to be inspected by the city inspector. Even outside of the city limits, when an inspection is not required, licensed plumbers are still expected to uphold the same standards as within the city limits.
